In the sixth form we ran a publication called 'Poot'. An attempt at humour, gossip and intrigue between our school (all boys) and the convent school (all girls). Unfortunately the publication quickly deteriorated into personal insults thinly disguised as humour. One girl in particular frequently fell under Poot's critical gaze. Comments of her preferring exhaust pipes to gear sticks degenerated into calling her a slut. Although not responsible for these and other comments, I, like many others, thought this hilarious and plead, shamefaced, guilty of a form of bullying.
The article caused an outrage among parents and staff, the victim of these scurrilous and unfounded attacks was too upset to attend school for a while. Needless to say the publication was shut down and the authors suspended Although not excusing ourselves, we were all young adolescents with raging hormones and, typical of adolescents, did not stop and think about how this would affect the poor girl.
Those in the BB house have no defence. They are adults and as such fully aware of how such comments will affect others. Yet still, Rex and Darnell had been verbally attacking Sarah for days. Darnell told Sarah that he believed she had slept with around 63 men and had "been around the block". This escalated into him saying "I think you are actually quite not attractive, like you're an ugly bitch." Darnell later called Sara the "biggest slut" in the Big Brother house.
BB called both 'men' in separately to inform them that bullying was not acceptable. Far from being shamed faced they then accused Sarah of crying over their 'joking' behaviour in order to get them into trouble. Unbelievable!
Where was the rest of the house when all this was happening? Why did no one come to her defence? Perhaps they were waiting for nominations to make their feelings felt. But... they nominated Sarah! How is it that the only person that can see what Rex and Darnell are doing is Mikey? And he is blind. ![]()

Big brother is so past its sell-by date. I don't watch it. I am not surprised to read that people bully each other - most animals which are stressed by confinement react in a similar way, just look at how battery chickens behave.
